Career Path -Did You Choose the Right One?

Choosing your career path is never an easy task. We never really know, until we’ve tried something, if doing it every day of our lives is going to be as exciting as it first seems. There are many who spend years to get a degree in the field of their dreams, only to find that they can’t find employment.

There was a time when jobs were easy find. If you didn’t like the one you were in, you moved on to something else. Like everything else, things have changed. If one wants to survive financially in this world, finding the right career path by the time you’re done high school is pretty much mandatory.

As I’ve said, we never know for sure that what we choose will in fact be our lifelong career. However, there are steps you can take to narrow it down.

Follow Your Passion

Consider the fact that a career is long term, verryyyy long term! So this is an easy one really. You need to enjoy what you do.  It should be something that will retain your interest for many years to come.

List your hobbies or things that interest you and investigate them.

Research the Industry

In as much we want to enjoy our career, choosing something we like doesn’t always make it feasible. Do the research. Find out everything you can about employment possibilities. How much training or schooling is required? How much will this job pay? How many opportunities would there be in your graphical area? or would you need to relocate? Is it an industry that will stand the test of time? What kind of shifts might you have to work?

Think long term. Think down the road. You may be young and single now but if this is a career you need to consider what your life will be in 5, 10, 15 years or more.

For example, taking on a career that requires shift work may work great for you now but what about when you are married and have children?

Research Trends

It’s only fair to say that many jobs are being replaced by technology. We see it every day in every industry. Everything from high end automation in factories to the cashier job being replaced by Self Check-out. Companies are looking for ways to save money and survive. The technology may be an up front cost, but overall will save money on payroll.

This is where watching the trends in the industries you are researching is wise. The last thing you want to do is spend time and money towards a career that will become extinct.

Looking for a New Career Path

So in the end, you made the wrong choice. For whatever reason. Now what?

You’ve been phased out or lost interest. You’re probabaly now in your 40’s or 50’s and lacking training in anything other than what you’ve done all your life. The thought of retirement has started to creep it’s way into your thoughts occasionaly. And now you’re wondering, how do I find another job that will pay enough to take me into those retirement years? Everyone wants to hire and train the young, enthusiastic ones in hopes they will remain employed for many years.

We tend to get a little settled into our careers and not stay so much in tune with trends and industries. The thought of retraining at this point is unrealistic or cumbersome to most. So how do we move forward? How do we now, at this point in our lives, find a new career?

I’d like to share with you something that I encountered in pretty much these exact circumstances. I realized that one of the largest growing industries was E-commerce. Year after year we can see a huge increase in what people do online. So I started looking towards the internet and how I could earn money.

What I found out firstly actually scared me. The number of people worldwide who are searching ways to make money online and the number of people looking for a new career.  So now here I am righting this article about just that.

The problem, I found, was finding something legitimate. The number of scams I found was ridiculous! Long story short, that’s how I started this website directed to Affiliate Marketing. There are legitimate ways out there to make money online. They are not, however, overnight wealth as these scams would have you believe. My website is intented to serve several purposes……

  • reveal the scams
  • assist with training
  • aid people in finding that new career path
  • share life health and wealth in general

This program will teach you everything you need to know including following your passion. The starter membership is free, as I said. The only money you put out beyond that is your choice. You can learn tons just with the starter and for free. If you choose to take a premium membership, it is monthly $49 US and that is all you will ever pay. 1. Hello Christine,

Great article! I remembering being stuck with my previous career because I thought it was the right one.

Fortunately, I realized sooner rather than later. The limitations of a regular career didn’t suit my lifestyle. I wanted more time for myself and my family.

You see, the idea of trading my time for money quickly made me realize that it will not get me anywhere. I had only 8 hours per day to make money, so what happens to the rest?

Well, it usually ends up watching television or playing video games.

You are absolutely right about the internet… in a sense it is a gold mine.

That’s why I decided to run a blog of my own and teach people from my experience how to create an income source via the internet.

    Thanks again,

    1. Thanks for stopping by Eric! The best part about choosing to make money online is that anyone can learn how to do it. You don’t need experience. All you need is time and the proper training which is readily available through Wealthy Affiliate.
