When it comes to just about anything you do, having a well laid out plan is often your best bet and the first step you want to take to ensuring your success. Flying by the seat of your pants can be fun, but long term doesn’t really get you there!
What Are you Looking to Achieve?
Before you can plan you need to determine what it is exactly that you’re trying to do.
Take some time and ask yourself the following questions…..
- Why do I want to work online?
- How much money do I want to make?
- What are my short term goals?
- What are my long term goals?
Write down your answers. It will serve to remind you as you go along. Nothing is carved in stone. It can always been changed but it gives a starting place.
What Do You Need to do to Get There?
Once you’ve set yourself some goals, you need to figure out how to make them happen. Yes, it’s up to you to make them happen. No one is going to do this work for you. Anyone who offers to make it all happen, is just filling their own pockets.
So here’s another list of questions…..
- What do I need to learn?
- How much am I willing to invest financially?
- How much time am I willing and able to invest?
It should be relatively obvious that the more time you are able to invest, the faster you can get rolling.
When it comes to the financial part, you will have to invest something. The only thing you will get for free is a look at what programs have to offer (if that). Beyond that, nothing is free so don’t look for the empty promises.
What have you decided that you need to learn? Is there one place you can do it or is going to require different forms or education? If you want my recommendation for education, click on the link below. It’s where I joined and let me tell you, there is no lack of learning there!
Whatever time you have available to dedicate to your new business, manage it properly. Make a list of what you want to accomplish in the time period and stick to it. It will require focus and concentration.
Choosing What your Business Will Be
There are several ways to make money online. Probably the most popular are blogging and affiliating. Unless you have your own product to sell, you will likely be choosing one of these options.
Now the big decision….blog about what, affiliate with whom? This is somewhat of an intimidating process. Think about the long term at this point. If you choose a blog site, you need to not only know in depth what you’re blogging about, but enjoying it is really going to help. Pick a passion or a hobble that you really like to spend time in. There are millions of people searching the internet every day and there’s going to be more than just a few who have the same interest. Don’t worry about attracting people to your site. You will make it your own and it won’t matter how many other sites there are on the same topic.
Now you might also decide to open an online store and just sell items through affiliate associations. This leaves it wide open to just about anything or narrowed to a specialized item. Again, better to choose an area that you are familiar with to be able to advertise your products efficiently.
Taking The First Step
Are you still with me? Not tired of planning and questions yet? That’s great!
That means you have already shown some dedication towards starting your own business. When I started, I had NO idea how much there really was to learn about online marketing. I had previous business experience and a little sales as well so I figured “Hey, how hard can it be?” It’s not hard actually, it’s just a lot of learning, and a lot of persistence. No business is a success overnight, online or otherwise. Yours will be no different.
So at this point I will leave you with some thinking to do about this lesson. Really spend some time planning out what you want this to be.
In Step 3, we will be taking action. We will take a closer look at that different areas of learning that will be required and how to get started with each one.
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please leave them below and I’ll be happy to answer.
